Personal Injury Claims

Compensation for motorcycle accidents

In Great Britain, 19,297 motorcyclists were injured in reported road accidents in 2016. Of these, 319 were killed and 5,553 seriously injured.

Although this represents a decline since 2008, when 493 motorcyclists were killed, it is still far too high: although motorcyclists only account for 1% of total road traffic, they account for around 18% of deaths on the road.

Motorcyclists are vulnerable road users and have a higher crash and injury rate than vehicle occupants because they do not benefit from all the protective features, such as seat belts, airbags and other impact protection features.

The majority of these deaths and serious injuries come as a result of an impact with a motor vehicle, especially at junctions. Motorcyclists often do not appreciate that if the accident was not their fault – or not wholly their fault, then they may be able to claim compensation.

What can I be compensated for?

The aim of any compensation claim is to seek to restore, in a monetary way, the injured person to the condition they were in prior to the accident. This, as anyone who has suffered an injury will know, is not the same as not having been injured in the first place.

However necessary medical, therapeutic, or psychological treatments to help recover from injuries, as well as financial compensation for past and future losses incurred as a result of the accident may be recoverable in more modest injuries as well as housing and care costs for more serious injuries.

To discuss such concerns in more detail request a call-back from our specialist team today.
