I am dual qualified practising clinical negligence solicitor and a  midwife until February 2024, and for the first time in 35 years I have let my role as a practising midwife lapse. I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1988, going on to qualify as a midwife in 1989 with a qualification in Tropical diseases in 1992. In 2000, I gained a BSc Hons degree in Anthropology, and subsequently undertook the legal conversion course while working as a Medical Assistant with a law firm in London. I have worked as a clinical negligence lawyer since 2008 after completing my training contract at Leigh Day & Co and then continued to work there before transferring to Irwin Mitchell Solicitors the following year. In my career I have worked at various firms such as Scott Moncrieff Solicitors and have maintained my passion for better healthcare throughout. In 2000 I gained a BSc Hons degree in Anthropology, and subsequently undertook the legal conversion course while working as a Medical Assistant with a firm in London. I qualified as a solicitor in 2008, specialising in clinical negligence law whilst still practising as a Senior Midwife.

I worked as an Expert Midwifery Witness since 2015, writing court reports on maternal and birth injuries in obstetric care.

I joined Browell Smith & Co solicitors in June 2025 as a senior clinical negligence solicitor with a specialist interest in maternal health and birth injury although I do take on a wide variety of cases. I am a trustee with a baby charity called ‘Aching Arms’ and a ‘Champion’ working with the charity ‘Make Birth Better’. I have spoken at the AVMA Conference in 2010 & at the AVMA Cerebral Palsy Conference in 2025’. I also assisted in organising a conference for the Birth Trauma Association in 2009 on ‘Perineal Trauma – Time to rethink Practice’.
