Derek Pack, a Partner in the Firm is the Head of the Department. Derek is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel of Specialist Lawyers who are permitted to represent the interests of children in Court proceedings, specifically where the Local Authority has intervened and taken proceedings, often resulting in children being removed from the care of their parents.

These are difficult cases for all concerned and Derek is able to bring his experience to bear, working with parents, professionals, Local Authority representatives and the judiciary in an effort to achieve the best possible outcome for the children involved.

Derek in turn is experienced in dealing with cases involving substantial assets, including not only property but also shareholdings, Pensions and a variety of other capital assets.

The aim of the Department in all cases is to resolve matters with the minimum of acrimony and as swiftly and efficiently as is possible, bearing in mind that the most appropriate outcome for a client is not always achieved by pursuing matters through the Courts with a view to securing the largest amount of money possible for the client.

Emotional and practical issues are always taken into account in determining the appropriate method of settling cases where possible. In those circumstances where settlement is not possible, however, the Department has an established reputation in pursuing cases through the Courts with a view to achieving the aims of the client.

Members of the Department pride themselves on their ability to listen and to understand the requirements of the client; to advise the client upon the options open to achieve those wishes and the practical skills to secure the desired outcome by whatever method is appropriate to the circumstances of the case.
